Why does it matter what brand of oils I use?

So why can't I just buy my oils from Walmart, Target, a health store, or Amazon?

When you walk into Walmart or Target, and you see a bottle of essential oil for $9.99, it’s tempting to give it a try. The bottle may even say that it is “all natural.” If you notice, the bottles or packaging will always say something like: “not for human consumption,” or “not for internal use,” or “do not apply topically.”

As a general rule of thumb, it is less expensive to artificially synthesize a chemical in the lab than it is to obtain it from its natural source. The business of growing, harvesting, and distillation is a much more tedious task than producing the constituent in a chemical factory which has the capacity to produce tons of the molecule in less than 24 hours.

So, if you’re allowed to put “natural” on the bottle with an artificially synthesized product, and the artificial product is cheaper to manufacture, and you’re a company whose primary driver is to maximize profits by lowering costs, what are you going to do? You’re going to manufacture the chemical, throw it in a bottle, and put “natural” on the label. And then you’re going to protect yourself from liability by placing disclaimers on the bottle.

You might argue that you won’t use this oil on your skin, or take it internally. You’ll just use it for diffusing in your home so that it “smells nice” or for aromatherapy. Well, the most direct route for a chemical to enter your bloodstream (other than injection) is through your lungs. The chemical constituents found in essential oils enter your lungs, and then directly and immediately diffuse into your capillaries and blood stream within minutes. As you diffuse this oil in your home, the toxic chemicals and solvents that are in your cheap essential oil will make it into your bloodstream. And if you have children or babies at home, these toxic compounds are entering their bloodstreams as well!

It is really important to know that not all essential oils are therapeutic grade and safe to use in the ways Young Living essential oils are. For example, those oils you saw at the health market probably cannot be ingested the way Young Living oils can. After researching Young Living's "Seed to Seal" process and seeing that many other essential oil brands contain synthetic oils, I knew it was the product I felt safest using. I started using Young Living oils for my own health reasons. I never thought I would become a part of the company as a distributor!
